For the exterior colors, there is something to say, for the tried and tested combinations. This classic residence would probably be irrelevant with any configuration other than the warm beige for the panel and the shining white around the windows and on the rails. Another good accent piece to pay attention to outdoor fixtures. These are wonderful to add complementary materials or colors, as well as decorative accents. Some of the most interesting exterior colors are those that divert tradition. Take, for example, the colonial houses: very often they are painted in color, often white. Although this is a good solution, there are ways to update and modernize this choice. The shades of accent selected here – a dusty, lavender gray and light turquoise – would not normally be used in the same color scheme. Here the gray has a refined accent on the shutters, while the turquoise – a brighter spin-off of some of the same blue-violet tones – leads the toll to the front door. Red, yellow and blue, the basic colors, are the basis of all other shades; as such, they are, of course, complimentary. But few of us plan to paint a house in red, yellow and blue, as shown in the original color wheel form. However, when they get a rich depth or amazing brightness, the colors offer an outward color scheme that is both distinctive as well as deeply satisfying. The key is to select a color that appears – here yellow – and another will be careful – in this case, red. The rich shadow, almost neutral, provides a base.
